Students explore how natural systems function

Students explore how natural systems function, remain diverse and produce everything they needs for the ecology to remain in balance. In natural forest settings & interacting with native communities they grasp that all systems can be viewed through the lens of sustainability.

Key learning for students will be to identify the factors that lead to biodiversity loss. In native forests & remote regions they will explore the ecological, socio-political and economic pressures that caused or are causing the degradation of the chosen area, and the consequent threat to biodiversity.

Investigating Biodiversity

Investigating Biodiversity

Biological diversity can be quantified in many different ways. The two main factors are richness and evenness. Students will have the opportunity to calculate Simpsons Biodiversity Index in various forest and land cover types.

Climate change involves science, economics, society, politics and moral and ethical questions – and is a global problem, felt on local scales, Engaging with local communities students will explore, causes, effects, mitigation and the need for adaptation.
